The beginning goes back to the township of Garðabær, where I, from age of six, grew up catching trout in its creek, Hraunsholtslækurinn. But quickly, the creek and its proximity, Lake Vífilstaðarvatn and Lake Urriðakotsvatn, not exciting enough and trips further to the east ensued, to Lake Elliðavatn and the rivers Bugða and Hólsá. Since then I have never looked back! Early on I began to make my own flies for use in my fishing adventures and I am still making them. Yes, the “goddess of fishing” is amazing – beautiful and tantalizing – luring me to most unbelievable places. One of these spots is Laxárdalur (e. Salmon Valley) in North Thingeyjar shire. I have gone there fly-fishing every spring since 1988. The surroundings are mesmerizing and the spring is perfect this type of a journey – the grass is taking color and migratory birds are arriving one by one. From this experience is the company name, the Angry Duck, derived, because when angling in Laxárdalur at this time of year the birds are going through their courtship, especially among the many species of ducks and there is an abundance of “angry ducks” all around, because success is painstakingly difficult for some.

Those of us that make flies for fishing want a fine-looking and practical container to store and carry them around and for a long time I had been thinking designing a container that was attractive as a gift and practical at the same time. That is when I started playing with designing a leather pouch, which is not an original idea, but got me going. My sister, which to my knowledge has never caught a fish but is a great designer, was involved in designing the first leather pouch for the Angry Duck that has been a great success. Yes, the pouch has evolved and is still under development as we keep on searching for the “perfect” design.

When the fly pouch is in your pocket, then you need something to hold your cutters, grippers and other accessories. That is how the idea of the cord came about, which does exist in many varieties across the field, but the Angry Ducks‘ cord was designed after many discussions with and advise from anglers, of whom I know a few. The cord was missing the tape measuring capability, number of designs were made and tested in attempts to make the measuring capability inclusive, but none was satisfying. That is when the “Fathom” was created. It has been developed and changed significantly since the first prototype was made and now it is one of our trademarks.

The ideology behind the products from the Angry Duck is to have everything you need for joyful angling experience, but at the same time not weighted down with gear. The pouch with flies that lure the catch, the cord to keep track of your accessories and the fathom to measure the fish is all you need for a perfect day. The Angry Duck is constantly developing new concepts and new items to make the anglers world more colorful, comfortable and at the same time bit more “fun”!
